# Before you accept a new connection

1. Bound one source, destination, version, allowed data window and device set. Agree the data-sharing method.
2. Declare identity, timestamp convention, time zone, offset, interval boundaries, metric, unit, scaling and precision.
3. Define absent, measured zero, invalid, estimated, delayed and revised states; state the expected cadence and exceptions.
4. Compare permitted source/application examples. Retain the expected rule and a minimal reproduction for each discrepancy.
5. Separate explained differences from unknowns. Give findings an owner and an acceptance condition. The responsible team retains the release decision.

## Handing a PV portfolio over: what to ask for

1. A site and device register with stable identifiers.
2. For each file, which source or portal export produced it, when it was exported and which filters or date range applied.
3. The meaning and unit of every field, including interval energy versus a cumulative counter.
4. The reporting window and expected cadence, the timezone and UTC offsets, and whether a timestamp labels the interval start or end.
5. How missing records are represented, kept explicitly separate from a measured zero.
6. Records that could not be mapped to a known site or device, listed rather than dropped.
7. The owner of each source, the reference it is quoted from, and the agreed review cutoff.

A site that was never mapped into a portal does not appear in that portal's overview at all, and a site that still reports can be missing one of its expected devices. An overview alone does not establish that every expected site and device is mapped and supplying complete records; comparing it with the expected register does. Whether a particular portal alerts when a mapped device stops arriving is a property of that portal — check it rather than assume it.
